Which part of this teaching identity balance is more difficult for you to hold onto right now?

Teaching is a calling, an act of faith. Teaching is also a profession like any other.

This quote by Susan Yergler beautifully captures the both-and that so many of us try to hold simultaneously in our work. We believe in its value and purpose, to the point that it is core to who we are—but we also do not want to define ourselves by it to the point that we forget it is indeed a job and it is important to remember that lens, too.

Both aspects of this way of seeing our work matter! My wondering, though: which side of this scale is more difficult for you to hold onto at this point in your teaching career?
