How can we inspire young people to answer the world’s tough questions if teachers are moving away from teaching Science and focusing on ELA and Math to get high test scores as a school?
October 19, 2025
This is going to be a huge problem in the near future, at least in my area. The state testing is focusing too much on ELA and Math. So, the teachers are finding it hard to find time to teach science in elementary. By the time they get to me (middle school teacher) they have very little background knowledge in science and have to catch up on lost instruction. Most students would rather apply their knowledge to real life situations. They love to hear about animals and the dilemmas they are facing. Through science they can figure out ways to help, let's make a change.
