How Strong Relationships Improve School Outcomes

A Nashville high school striving to close achievement gaps is relying on trauma-informed practices and social and emotional learning—and it’s getting results.

February 5, 2018

Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School works to accommodate the academic needs of all students with trauma-informed practices and pedagogy grounded in social and emotional learning (SEL). The foundation of this work is relationships—between students and adults in the building, but also between students, and between the adults. The school’s non-negotiables and core values are posted prominently all over the campus to reinforce their values.
