What’s something you’ve found success with when it comes to sharing what’s happening in your classroom with student families and home adults?

With a new school year either just having launched or about to take off, it feels like a meaningful time to share strategies and perspectives around communicating with student families and home adults.

Of course, this looks different based on context—but one thing I've really started to appreciate at this point in my career is how frequently I hear something that is working in a very different context and realize that there's a way it can positively impact my own space!

To offer my own example, one thing that I've leaned on frequently in recent years is making sure to include "questions to ask your student" in my updates home—often with context to help them understand the questions. For example, I might share out that we just reviewed class results about a recent essay, so the message home might include, "You can ask your student about the feedback they received on their essay and one thing they want to improve for next time!" It's a great way to build communication between the classroom and home, I've found, and to give families and home adults something to build purposeful conversations with!
