What is one strategy or tool you use to help students become more independent with everyday classroom or functional skills?

I teach middle and high school students in a self-contained Life Skills classroom, and increasing student independence is always one of my biggest goals. I use visual schedules, AAC, task breakdowns, and prompting with my students, but I am always looking for new ideas. What is one strategy or tool you use to help students become more independent with everyday classroom or functional skills?
