How can I establish a strong rapport with families from the beginning of the school year?

A goal of mine is to build a strong rapport with families from the beginning of the year. Keeping in mind that not all families have access to technology (i.e., email, etc), what are some ways I can establish strong communication & emphasize working as a team?
