Tanya Brown Merriman

Chief Educational Director

Dr. Merriman has been an educator and writer for the last 25 years. She has taught pre-K, elementary, and high school students, and later taught and worked at the Art Institute of Chicago, helping teachers discover and build the museum’s collection into their own teaching environments. After moving to California with her family, she taught a variety of graduate-level classes, including TESOL, linguistics, social studies, and culturally relevant classrooms at UCLA and the University of Southern California.

In addition to contributing to a number of educational resource books and journals, Dr. Merriman also wrote the book Those Who Can: A Handbook for Social Reconstruction and Teaching. She is currently the chief educational director at Course, a company that offers classes and creates culturally responsive educational resources.
