Kelly Hurst has been a teacher, guidance dean, and assistant principal in education for over 20 years. She recently became the executive director of Being Black at School and consults with schools and speaks at blogging, education, and corporate conferences.

She lives in Springfield, Illinois, with her husband; they are the parents of six grown children and one granddaughter.
