How are you and your students using AI to improve student writing skills?
I was on Edutopia's School of Practice podcast recently talking about AI and writing instruction. My recurring theme seems to be that I want to move past the fear of AI and leverage practical applications that actually help students become better writers.
In my classes, I've found a few things that seem to work. Student facing AI tools can provide instant feedback on a draft, and that keeps them writing. Asking students to revise a draft that I created with AI shows them how much there is to fix in AI writing and creates real productive struggle. AI can help students generate an outline or a time management plan to help them take steps toward starting (and finishing) their writing projects. I'm trying new things all the time and adjusting as I go, but some of it is working.
I know many of us are still in the experimental phase.
What's one way you're incorporating AI into writing instruction that's helping your students improve?
