Rachelle S. Savitz

Associate Professor of Reading/Literacy Studies

Rachelle S. Savitz is an associate professor of reading and literacy at East Carolina University. She was previously a K–12 literacy coach, interventionist, and high school reading teacher. She explores critical inquiry, culturally sustaining and equitable pedagogy, trauma-sensitive practices, and teacher self-efficacy related to disciplinary literacy. She co-authored Teaching Hope and Resilience for Students Experiencing Trauma: Creating Safe and Nurturing Classrooms for Learning with Drs. Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey and has two new books coming out with Routledge and Teachers College Press.
