I first experienced truly outstanding teaching and learning 25 years ago on a backcountry trail in the Wind River Mountains with the National Outdoor Leadership School. The learning was real, the challenge was compelling, and the outcomes were not predetermined. In many ways I have been walking that path in education ever since.
I have been a classroom teacher, an outdoor leader, a program director, an advisor, a coach, and a dorm parent. I have been a facilitator, a panelist, a mentor, and a TED talker. I have blogged, tweeted, posted, and founded.
But I haven't yet figured out how to make school work for all kids.
