This web site looks wonderful! Thank you so much for posting it. I am a college student collecting web sites for future use and my mind is thinking of all possibilities with this one.

I love to hear teachers' enthusiasm! When Ginger says, "What's even better, the teacher doesn't have to be an expert, even though it's easy to learn. However, NOT being the expert allows the learner to take the lead and also to show YOU the cool things. Engenders excitement in student and teacher alike!" I am reminded of what I have been saying in regard to the best laptop classrooms in my native Maine's Maine Learning Technology Initiative (www.mainelearns.org) and beyond: "The best things happen when teachers and students meet in the middle as learners!" We were introduced to Google Sketchup and we're (well, my colleague is facilitating it) designing an entire town in math. This causes kids to problem-solve and really do a lot of 3-D thinking. It's just exciting to see how they take to it! What's even better, the teacher doesn't have to be an expert, even though it's easy to learn. However, NOT being the expert allows the learner to take the lead and also to show YOU the cool things. Engenders excitement in student and teacher alike! When students have to "advocate" for their designs, it's a PERFECT opportunity to plug in a little mini-workshop about persuasive techniques and they get a chance to practice them! Thanks for the article!

SketchUp (Google version)

SketchUp (Google version) has proven to be a great tool for my classroom. Currently, I conduct a classroom where ten 8th graders must create a business, design various elements, calculate expenses, and draft a product that will be pitched to the school's administrative team. SketchUp, in this situation, was used as a drafting tool for my group that decided to create a store. The scaffolded tutorial was key to the learning process and my students loved the interface and ease-of-use that is associated with this tool. If you don't have it yet... go get it and have fun.
