Hi all,

Note the definition I'm using at the beginning of the presentation: A formative assessment or assignment is a tool teachers use to give feedback to students and/or guide their instruction. It is not included in a student grade, nor should it be used to judge a teacher's performance. Both of these would be considered summative assessments.

Really amazing presentation.
I am using some of these examples of formative assessment but I have never known that we call this " Formative Assessment "

I see that this post goes back some time; however, I appreciate finding these examples. I use many of those examples presented; however, I don't document a thing! Any good ideas on how to quickly do this?

Hi Chris! There are lots of ways to document- both low-tech and high tech! I use everything from my smart phone (to snap pics and videos of quality work and behaviors) to a file folder/ notecard system for jotting notes about what I see and hear while kids are working. There are apps that can help as well. You're welcome to look at my Pinterest boards with some practical examples here: http://www.pinterest.com/criticalskills1/

Completely agree with Laura on using your phone to document everything. You can use it as a great source of material for a classroom blog or newsletter.

I use my phone all the time to take photos of work, and I have a classroom FB page where I post pics. I do have permission from parents and my district. :) I guess I was thinking that documentation had to be in a format that was more formal.
