Set time limits for your child, you may do so in your plan. Create opportunities for your teen to interact with nature, other people, volunteer. Make his inner life and his life with you more interesting than the internet. It is not easy, but it is worth it. The addiction is created easily because teens have a lot of emotional voids. Tell your child how much you love and appreciate them. This is what they are looking for on the internet!!! Problem is it isn't authentic, yours is!

Thank you Matt for highlighting the lack of separation many of our students encounter. I agree that partnering with parents, students and the school we can help teach the skills our students need to learn how to manage the ever present world in which they live. Working with our students we can help strike that balance of being involved and letting them have their space. It's about communicating with them, not trying to catch them doing something or scare them.

Interesting blog! For most teens it is the way of life. I remember the days when petty gossip or unpleasant arguments took place at school and were never heard of past the initial day. Now with the different social media sites, things are escalated until they are out of control. Technology is a great thing, but used unwisely it can be the downfall of many teens. We always keep the line of communication open with our son, but we also monitor occasionally.
