Rural accessibility

Rural accessibility is a huge problem in my area. As a public school teacher, I only have dial up at my home. Even that is nearly $20 a month. My only other option is satellite which is unreliable and cost prohibitive for my family, as well as those in this area making much less than I do as a teacher. Our district participated in a grant program which put netbooks in the hands of all students 7-12. Great idea, but without high speed internet availability, we have further increased the divide. More and more learning materials, online textbooks, online 'extras' for texts, research materials, etc.. are not available once many students leave the building. It is a trule sad reflection on our society when sheer geography decides your educational opportunities.
