I have discovered that arming students with deep insights and "spot on" humor greatly improves their chances of becoming happy and productive classroom citizens. And whenever I need an idea planted in the hearts and minds of my busy students, I make sure to pen my point into a song. Why? Because lyrics so often linger on and become new thinking!
The full story of how my wisdom packed songs evolved into empowering classroom material can be found at www.IamBullyproofMusic.org. Our original lessons plans were penned by talented veteran educator, Dru Frick. I currently co-create ELA teaching units around the themes of my SEL songs with lovely Retta London from Rainbow City Learning. The magical young voices on our "Clue Tunes" belong to songbirds from "Lessia's Crew." Our site www.VocalsbyLocals.com is a lot of fun to visit if you'd like to learn more about my original crew of gifted kids. An abundance of lessons videos made with animated (and convincing!) fourth and fifth students from Sonoma, CA and Detroit to support IaBPm material can be found on our various sites. Trust me, the munchkins are adorable :-) We have music videos too. Sing a song, get a clue! All grades covered. Feel free to also visit http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/I-Am-Bullyproof-Music -a place very close to my heart.
I love Edutopia and feel very in tune with the philosophy of this site. I am here hoping to make many warm and friendly connections. Hooray for harmony!
