WHAT WORKS IN EDUCATION The George Lucas Educational Foundation

Jocelyn Seamer

I am currently a classroom teacher in the Northern Territory of Australia teacher children aged 5-8 in a Remote Indigenous Community. My students do not speak English at home and most live in poverty. I love my work and seeing my students feel good about themselves and learning is hugely rewarding.

I used to be a home school Mum and greatly enjoyed steering my own childrens' education. I miss teaching my children and hope to return to it one day soon. I'm fairly critical of mainstream education and believe that Australia needs to critically assess its methods of education. I use a play based approach in my classroom and see that individualised education that teaches children the habits of independent learning is such a valuable thing.

I have a website www.multisenselearning.com and hope to share as much information as I can with all parents to help them to help their children learn and grow.
