How well do students speak? How impressive are in-class presentations? Podcasts? Videos? We have neglected to teach students how to be effective oral communicators. Yes, we have speaking assignments, but show me the lessons you use to prepare the students to succeed at them. I wrote Well Spoken: Teaching Speaking to All Students (Stenhouse, 2011) and Digitally Speaking (Stenhouse, 2012) to show classroom teachers how to improve speaking in all its forms.

Areas of Interest:
updating instruction,
developing oral communication skills in students
