Marcus Conyers, PhD is lead developer of the BrainSMART(R) Health Wise Program for supporting well-being and cognitive performance. For almost 20 years he has supported communities, organizations, and schools with this cutting edge program. He is lead developer of the world's first doctoral minor in Brain-Based Leadership and a co-developer of the first graduate degree programs focused on unique applications of brain science and psychology (BrainSMART Programs) with Nova Southeastern University and is the co-author of 20 texts in these fields. Recent texts include the #1 Wiley best-seller in Cognitive Psychology, Positively Smarter: Science and Strategies for Increasing Happiness, Achievement, and Well-being, and the upcoming third edition of BrainSMART Health Wise. He serves as a PhD supervisor with Canterbury Christ Church University. Dr. Conyers has shared applications of his work with more than 100,000 learners in live events and through articles in Kappan and Educational Leadership. He is the developer of the BrainSMART(R) program for connecting education, mind, well-being, and selected brain research on how people learn to the practice of leading and teaching.
Conyers presents at academic institutions internationally, including Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, Leiden University in the Netherlands, and Florida Atlantic University, University of Central Florida, and Rollins College in the United States. Conyers earned his PhD at the University of Westminster. His research interests include a focus on improving teaching practice by applying implications of education, mind, and selected brain research.
Conyers is a member of the International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology and the American Educational Research Association and of AERA's Brain, Neuroscience and Education SIG. Conyers led three-year initiatives with the Florida Department of Education and with Florida Atlantic University, the latter supported by an Annenberg Challenge Grant Award. Conyers has refined his research-based models for effective teaching by working with thousands of K-12 students and with 100,000 educators and administrators worldwide. His audiences have included ministers of education in South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Ontario, Canada. He was a co-developer of the curriculum for the Master of Science and Educational Specialist degree programs with a major in Brain-Based Teaching with the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University. He serves as Director of Communications for the Center for Innovative Education and Prevention.
