WHAT WORKS IN EDUCATION The George Lucas Educational Foundation

Joanna Puello

With more than 15 years of conventional and non-conventional teaching and curriculum/program development experience in the US and abroad, Joanna has always preferred a non-traditional approach to education. Her teaching career started on summer breaks from the university, when she had the opportunity to teach English as a Second Language in China and the Dominican Republic. She integrated Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory into the first ESL curriculum she developed for a private school in the Dominican Republic. Her senior year, she formed part of the K-5 Distance Learning Developmental Team by writing educational scripts for the virtual instructors. Three years later, Joanna teamed with her husband to direct a non-profit children's organization in the Dominican Republic, where she re-designed the leadership training program to reflect a John Dewey Experiential Education approach and grew the active club retention by 300 percent.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the EMDTMS program at Full Sail University, Joanna decided to pursue her passion of helping educators to transform their classrooms into hubs of inspiring innovation as the Community Coordinator for the Educator Studio.
