WHAT WORKS IN EDUCATION The George Lucas Educational Foundation

Denise Stewart

I am originally from NY (BA Hunter College and M.A. in TESOL from New York University). Currently, I am an ELD Coordinator and EL Instructional Coach in San Jose Unified, San Jose, CA. I am also an adjunct professor with National Hispanic University in the Teacher Education Department. My passion all my professional life has been to both inspire ELLs to go on to college and support any and all teachers working with this population. I have been a teacher trainer in this area for over 25 years (while still teaching high school ELLs full time). Continuing to support teachers of this population, two colleagues of mine and I developed an incredible website to provide free resources for these teachers to use in making their curriculum more accessible to these students. It is www.ellteacherpros.com. To date, over 35,000 visitors have come to the site and the numbers continue to double from month to month. I have also created a blog which addresses websites and teaching strategies to use those websites at www.teachingsuccesseswithells.blogspot.com. In two years, I have developed a following of close to 7000 and climbing. ELL TEACHER PROS facebook is new and growing exponentially as well. I hope to touch base with other teachers striving to make a difference in helping the ELL population and their teachers.
