I started my career in education as a special education instructional assistant at a school for multiple disabled students ages 11-21. I credit my ability to accept, adapt, and differentiate my teaching for the diverse population of students we now teach, to my experience in that setting. I was encouraged by the assistant principal at that school to go back to school and become certified to teach science, which was the area I had earned my bachelor's degree in. I have never regretted that decision. I have been teaching middle school science since 1991 and thoroughly enjoy it. The students can be quite challenging, but I love having the opportunity to shape their lives and who they will be in the future. After all, young people are the future of our country.
