Hello! I am a registered nurse that has been involved with children with learning and behavioral challenges for over 25 years in a variety of settings. I started working in the public schools in 1996 as a school nurse. Eight years ago I became a Behavior Intervention Specialist, as that is where I felt that I could make the most impact in advocating for these children. I absolutely love working with this population of children, but I am constantly frustrated by a system that does not support these students in ways that could bring about real change. In fact, it is the system itself that actually causes the majority of the behaviors in students due to it's lack of flexibility and emphasis on compliance and conformity above learning. So as you might have guessed I am very passionate about school reform!
