In December 1998, I earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Arlington. After completing my undergraduate work, I spent two years as a marketing assistant at Medieval Times Dallas and five years employed as a copywriter at SullivanPerkins, a Dallas advertising agency with national clients ranging from Nokia to Verizon Communications.

In spring 2006, after months of prayer and careful consideration, I left the private sector to pursue a rewarding career as a teacher in Texas schools. Since my baptism in public education, I have had the honor of working as a seventh-grade English teacher at A.C. New Middle School in Mesquite, Texas, and as a sixth-grade reading/ELA teacher at Dorie Miller Intermediate School in Ennis, Texas. I now teach seventh-grade reading/ELA at Ennis Junior High in Ennis, Texas. In May 2011, I earned a M.Ed. in education technology from Lamar University. I also serve as a My Big Campus Coach. Check out my blog ( for My-Big-Campus tips and tricks.
