I am the author of Kids, Classrooms, and Capitol Hill: A Peek Inside the Walls of America's Public Schools. The book is a funny, edgy, poignant look at life in the classroom. It honors teachers and recognizes their challenges. And it take legislators to task for passing so much boneheaded legislation.
Prior to writing the book I taught high school journalism in Flint, Michigan for nearly 20 years. I left the classroom to pursue a career in journalism, and for seven years I wrote a weekly newspaper column about education. The column ran on the Sunday op-ed page of the Flint Journal for seven years, and on the Sunday feature page of the Jackson Citizen Patriot for three years.
