After high school, I served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years as a nuclear reactor operator. I attended Navy Nuclear Power School and then served onboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) and the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72).

I earned my bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics education from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. I am currently working on a master's degree in education at St. Mary's University.

I have been teaching at Century Junior High since 2006, and I am currently the science department chair. I am the advisor for Century's student diversity team - Open Minds. I am also the coach for Century's FLL robotics team. I serve on the district science curriculum review team and on the district diversity committee.
