WHAT WORKS IN EDUCATION The George Lucas Educational Foundation

Thomas J. Bailey

I am an English teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools at North Side High School. I co-teach World Literature and History classes with Shabaz Khaliq (social studies teacher). We taught this co-taught class last year at Elmhurst High School and were highly successful at increasing student reading ability, writing scores, language conventions, and are expected to have 80%-90% passing rate on the English 10 ISTEP+ End of Course assessment (looking at the raw data from the state) even though 69% of our students were on free or reduced lunch and nearly half were minorities.
I have experience teaching AP Language and Literature courses (highly effective results there too), writing the English 12 Curriculum Master map for FWCS and for the Indiana Department of Education, and I use all available technologies to effectively use data in instruction, engage students in 21st Century skills, and creative learning experiences. This includes use of multimedia, researching, and many other technologies. See my work (and student works) here:
