I'm working with a group called the Institute for Innovation in Education (http://iie.icsmich.org), and we have a unique event coming up June 18-21 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This "Gathering" is part PD workshop, part symposium, and part "startup weekend" style collaborative work session. We do these a couple times a year in different parts of the world, and each one has a distinct style and character.
The upcoming Gathering will bring together a really diverse group of people, including folks from higher ed, museums and informal learning, educational non-profits, enlightened for-profits, students, and P-12 professionals of all types. A lot of the activities are free, and we've built in lots of time for networking, brainstorming, and working in small groups and project teams. It's not exclusively focused on technology, but tech is naturally a big part of what goes on.
