Does your school assign work to be completed over the summer? Is it a one-size fits all assignment (Read a book, fill out questions/study guide to be handed in first day of class) or does it ask kids to explore ideas or concepts on a deeper level? As my kids are working towards finishing their summer reading projects at the Middle School and High School level, it seems that this work could be designed to be more cross curricular or ask them to explore new ideas in depth rather than asking shallow questions about what happens in Chapter 12. How would you design a personalized or differentiated summer project? Or is summer reading/projects merely a time to extend curriculum beyond the school year? How do you view summer school assigned reading?
