I would be interested thoughts from anyone who has given or received either. My experience has been in helping run the events described at blockfest.org Parent reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, and I continue to be amazed at how well thought out the activity is and at how well it presents the ideas of preschool math. It was developed at the U. of Idaho Boise in 2005, four years before the National Research Council released its call for a national effort in early childhood math. For anyonee interested, there is a great ten minute audio on the NRC's "Mathematics Learning in Early Childhood: Paths Toward Excellence and Equity” at http://www.nap.edu/audioplayer.php?record_id=12519&n=0 as an overview.]
