Hello!!!  I hope this will help you.  I had a mentor last year for my first year of teaching...if you could call it that.  I rarely got to see the gal assigned to mentor me, so often I felt I was on my own.  I wish I had know about the great groups on Twitter because I think it would have been a better first year for me.  I also wish I had known about tools like Glogster, Tagxedo, and even Diigo.  I really appreciate for helping me learna about a lot of it.  I really believe it will help me with my second year.

Of course, I would also share that classroom management stuff by Harry Wong was helpful too.  =)

I'm an Educational Coach (mentor) and mod this group here on Edutopia. I'm also the creator of New Teacher Chat on twitter. I moderate that chat and would recommend you join us there as a support to your new year. Here is our wiki
I archive the chat and you can get many support pieces in the content.
I think that's so much more supportive than what I've seen with Harry Wong's site. His book, however is a great resource.

I have just completed my Elementary Education Certification Exam and was told by the state that the next step was to go through a Mentoring Program. How do I find a Mentor? Do I contact the local schools?

I'm so glad you came to this group to ask this question.

I have developed a new teacher mentoring group on The EduPLN Check out my post, find the mentors on the google doc and contact them via their emails.

Each one of them is committed to supporting and mentoring a new teacher, or even a vet that might want some support.

Let me know who you connect with and feel free to share this resource with others!
