Thanks to everyone for posting here. I must admit I get a little choked up by some of these stories. Sign in to vote! Posted 11/21/2009 2:22pm Jeannie I work in a fairly affluent community and last year I got about 8 Starbucks cards. I started going in the mornings and before long I had a huge headache if I didn't! By that point I was a regular so at least once a week the friendly employees would give me my coffee for free. It got to the point that even if I wanted something different from my normal order - a short coffee - I couldn't get it because my regular order was ready and handed to me with a smile and "Hi Jeannie!" as soon as I came in the door. At the end of the school year I decided not to go to Starbucks over the summer and I just finally went back for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I had a sore throat and wanted a tea, but sure enough as soon as I walked in, over 4 months later, I was greeted with "Jeannie! Where have you been?!" and handed a short coffee. Sign in to vote! Posted 11/25/2009 12:21pm Sarah Erickson9th Grade English & World Geography, 10th -12th Creative Writing Teacher I have a charm bracelet that I've been adding to for 18 years now. My most treasured gifts have been charms for my bracelet from my students. One stands out in my mind in particular. It is a heart with an S engraved in it. I thought it was for my first initial, but the student said it was for "second chances" because that's what I'd given him. That charm still makes me choke up a bit every time I see it. They cheer you up after a rough day. Another great gift, seeing your former students go on to college and having a successful life. Sign in to vote! Posted 11/29/2009 3:34pm Susan Carey I certainly appreciate the gift cards and notes of appreciation, but the greatest gift for me is when former students return to thank me and let me know that I gave them a good foundation for high school classes! I feel that their continued interest in keeping in contact with me following graduation is a true gift. I love when they send me updates on their progress, pictures of their graduations, weddings, and children. The notes just to say hello and that they are thinking of me always brighten my day. I would add that I have also very much appreciated apologies my students wrote to me for their own or their classmates' misbehavior or disrespect. These sincere expressions are so much more meaningful than any material gift. Sign in to vote! Sign in to comment. Not a member? Register.
