Hello, world!

Thanks to everyone who has joined in and helped to get groups launched! We're going live to the rest of the world on Tuesday. (:::crossing fingers:::) And while our team here is wrapping up the bugs and technical glitches (fingers crossed again), we're really just starting out. This is the most exciting aspect of all! Though we've been working on this for the better part of the last year, we've only just started creating this place where educators can come together and chat, discuss, collaborate, and focus on the issues we're facing. There are many groups that tackle specific issues. This Welcome Lounge is more general. It's a place to introduce yourself, ask questions about the community, and meet others. Feel free to post news stories and other timely, funny, or useful info here, too. Onward! betty

Just signed up and checking things out. Everything looks really interesting and I hope to find some great ideas and collaborators.

As a teacher of 31 years, I am always looking for new ideas to keep my teaching fresh, and my students (and myself) interested.

Incorporating a groups feature is a great idea. I already feel that there is strong core content on this site and now it only makes sense to differentiate by these social groups. I for one plan to participate.

I have been tasked to see what assistive technology hardware and software our district should get. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi Ray,

I'd be happy to try to help. Could you be a bit more specific? What types of assistive technology are you looking for? There's just so much out there, it's nice to narrow it down to start :)

PS: Without knowing much, I can tell you we conducted a poll: "What is the best education software?" That may be a good starting point.

I am glad to see Edutopia moving into this style of community. The groups cover a wide range of educational topics I am interested in. I have been a teacher for 15 years and just moved into a new area: educational technology and curriculum. I would love to connect with others that are in the position of choosing and creating curriculum for K-12, especially in the are of project-based learning. Looking forward to making connections in the Edutopia community!

I would like to extend a helpful hand to anyone working on this credential. Oftentimes, after the training hours are completed, students are left on their own to complete the rest of this process. This can become very frustrating and there is a large dropout rate. Feel free to email me at or visit my website

It is interesting how close the world is. I have noticed the interest in the Virtual Laboratories. I am doing my doctoral studies in this area too and at times the words associated with this are astouding simulations, virtual manipulatives, online laboratories, dry laboratories etc. However I feel it is the way to go. I have been drawn to this corner of Edutopia. I hope we keep posted. My area of interest is especially to the rural schools and how science process skills will be affected.

Looks good - watched and read edutopia for many a year on and off.

Hope I can bring in an international perspective to the edutopia group topics as all my teaching has been within the UK or in British curriculum based international schools (with one minor 180 degree incursion into the IB MYP).

Just waiting for more to join and things to develop - let me know.
