Good story by NPR reporter Claudio Sanchez this morning about the Boston Teacher Residency, a homegrown teacher certification program that gives teachers-to-be a full year or more of mentoring in a real classroom, plus lots of social support. More like a medical-school model. What do you think? Good idea? How was your ed-school experience different from this? How would your teaching career have evolved differently if you'd gone to a place like BTR? Is it for everyone? (Also, may we not-so-humbly say that we scooped NPR a couple years ago on BTR. You can watch these audio slide shows of real teachers-in-training at BTR to get a deeper sense of their experience: Derek Allen, elementary school Nadirah Muhammad, middle school science)
