Hi, I am a student at Stanstead College. SC (Stanstead College) is a boarding school on the boarder of Quebec and Vermont. I wake up everyday at around 7 am and i go to breakfest and at 8:30 i go to my classes. Its really hard to wake up in the morning and concentrate in my morning classes, because I go to sleep at around 11:30 everyday. The reasone is that I am either finishing my homework or I am just not able to fall asleep. I am wondering why school cant start at around 10:00 am. This would be a highschool students day. Go to bed at around 11:30 12:00, wake up at around 9:00 which should give us atleast 9/9.5 hours of sleep a day. Then we could go to school untill around 4:30 do our after school activities, and around 5:30 6:00 go do what we ussually do. I really feel I cooperate better when I go to classes during this time. I have expeirenced this during my sleep-ins at SC, which is when we get to sleep-in untill 9:45.

yes, starting later in the morning would improve the function of high school students. After reading some of the comments it made me upset that some people say that high schoolers are lazy and that is why they don't want to get up so early. Apparently, some people don't realize how high school is these days. I am in high school myself and we are learning harder things than previous generations learned in high school and the majority of everyone in my school is involved in something after school. After waking up at 5:40, going to school at 7, going to practice or a game, doing my homework, finally collapsing to bed at 11, and sometimes waking up early to study even more before school, is not what I call lazy! Balancing straight A's, sports, community service, work, and activities is hard, but even harder with no sleep and having to get up earlier in the mornings. I know for a fact that last sememster, when I was able to take an unscheduled first hour, I was a lot happier just because I got more sleep. Waking up at 5:40 or earlier puts me in a bad mood every morning and really does affect my acedemics. I sleep all the time during class now that I don't have unscheduled first hour anymore. So, maybe those people who say high schoolers are lazy, need to take a closer look at what actually happens in the lives of high schoolers today. We need our sleep in the mornings.

Starting school at 7:00am has

Starting school at 7:00am has never been a problem for my friends & I. Its a great time for high school students, because we get out at 1:15pm. None of us care to stay at school until 3:00pm. We don't watch TV during the week, or stay up late. If we're in bed by 9:30pm we actually do get enough sleep. Once you're in high school you have to manage your time. If you don't manage your time, then yea, you're going to be tired all day. All of my friends have 5 hrs.of homework a night, & we still get in bed by 9:30pm. You can't be in high school & keep the same late night schedule you kept in junior high & expect to do well. You have to become an expert at managing your time!

I am in high school, an A student, and think school should start later(I hope the A student part may say something for teens are just slackers with bad sleeping patterns and need to suck it up). I have a lot of trouble concentrating in my first two hours of school because I am VERY tired, as do most of my sleeping classmates. This isnt because I stay up all night partying. In fact I normally manage to get to bed at a decent time. Its the fact that I simply do not function as well in the morning as in the evening. If I go to bed at 9 and wake up at 5, there's your 8 hours. But I would be exhausted. If i go to bed at 12 and wake up 8, its the same amount of time but I feel so much more awake. Even if i go to bed early I can't fall asleep until later so whats the point. I'm sure most students would academically benefit from a later starting time, and as for the problem with extracurricular activities, move them later to. Its obvious, teens function better later, so start things later for them.
