I went to a private boarding school in the 50s. My teacher was a deposed Russian countess. Top that for academics. I graduated from Cal State LA with a BA in Music Education. I taught piano and a variety of subjects in the public schools. I also teach Art, and my son is a studio artist. So if anybody needs the best in the business, he's over here at my house in the back room. With his Apple computer.
I had to home school my children, and I worked as a paralegal.
My brother received his PhD in Education from Stanford, and went on to recruit teachers for the US Embassy Schools. I've also worked as an assistant to major university educational researchers. Not that it counts for anything. I understand how think tanks and educational researchers pour money into their own agendas.
The reason I home schooled my children? The schools tried to turn my children into mindless little zombies, who were incapable of thinking for themselves, and were not teaching classical methods. We're sort of making it up as we go along over here, while the British and Canadians seemed to have solve the whole problem of education.
Right now, I teach near an Indian reservation. I would make more money in the Peace Corps. We have a lot of charter schools springing up, not sure how effective they'll be in the long run. Until we ask the British, the Canadians, the French, the Russians, and the Italians for a little help, we will remain the richest, most illiterate nation in the world. Remember, a majority of very wealthy Americans send their children to Europe for school.
