I’ve always been a teacher. I began teaching in a boarding school and went on to teach in suburban and urban public schools in the United States as well as in universities. I’ve started and run two organizations dedicated to language and literacy development, The ArtsLiteracy Project at Brown University and Habla: The Center for Language and Culture in Mérida, México.
I believe that communities develop through a shared sense of space and purpose. How we use our common educational spaces determines our future as a society. My work focuses on creating spaces where we reflect on who we are and envision new possibilities for the future.
