Ten Top Tips for Teaching with New Media

I downloaded the Ten Top Tips for Teaching with New Meida PDF file and I am disappointed that I did not find this document during the summer. I would have loved to have included many of the tips at the beginning of the school year. I believe the tips offered would have added to my students engagement during instruction. I will take three of the tips and begin incorporating them into my instructional plan beginning next week and I anticipate that my students will enjoy the introduction of technology into their learning. The tips that appeal to me most are the following: Tip #2, Find Your Classroom Experts, Tip #3 Think Globally and Tip #7, Work Better Together. I work as a special education teacher with students who receive instruction in the inclusion setting as well as providing self-contained instruction in the areas of reading, language arts and math. I think every student would like to be viewed as an expert in some area and encouraging students with disabilities to become classroom experts or to display their expertise in an area related to the curriculum would increase their individual engagement and their confidence. My students have difficulty thinking beyond their individual lives and Tip #3, Think Globally would encourage them to be more aware of their community and the world in general. Thinking globally would also allow the students to apply their knowledge to situations beyond their classroom or home and should increase their ability to think critically. Tip #7, Work Better Together is important because elementary students in general and special education students in particular are in the beginning stages of understanding how to work in teams or groups. I appreciate the use of technology to track team work and to serve as a venue for class members to view the work of others as a way of sharing ideas and prompting conversations.

Ten Top Tips for Teaching with New Media

After reading Ten Top Tips for Teaching with New Media my initial reaction was WOW! I am a Special Education teacher for grades 9-12 and it can be challenging at times to keep my students actively engaged. Our students are technology savvy and love hands on. So Tip #10 is the best tips because I can share with my teacher I collaborate with. Using the Buddy system will help me implement the technology. I also, would like to share another site DimDim.com. DimDim is an interactive website that allows you to tutor your students it allows them to see and hear you while at home. The students are allowed to ask question (and you can hear them)or either type their question to you. It is very engaging. I also enjoy using classzone.com for my lower functioning students.

Great Material!

The information provided in this PDF is excellent for the teacher that wants to incorporate technology into the classroom, but is not quite sure where to begin. Even as a teacher that is experienced with technology, there are some excellent ideas presented in here. Even if you decide not to try them all, take the time to try out a few, your students will be happy you did!

Ten Top Tips

As a new teacher, I found the Ten Top Tips for Teaching with New Media to be amazing. I cannot wait to begin using new forms fo media in my classroom. Kids love working on the computer. Often times, they know more about computers than the teachers do. I find Make Meaning from Word Clouds to be an amazing tool to us with my English class. Thank you for posting this and making it available to all teachers.

Word Clouds

I tried the word clouds website and had a lot of fun with it. I'm planning on incorporating it into the next unit I teach in Chemistry because I think students will enjoy it, too. Thanks for the great resources! I also am interested in starting a chat room, but am nervous about managing it. Any suggestions, anyone?

Top Ten Tips

What a great idea to share with colleagues at a faculty meeting! From finding donations for your classroom to making digital presentations, this is a very matter-of-fact article that is useful for teachers of all grade levels. Has anyone tried getting technology donations from donorschoose.org? Does anyone use blogging with 4th graders? If so, how do you do it securely? I'd like to start using it so parents and students can interact with writing and other projects, but I first need to be able to sell the idea to my administrators who need reminded of the benefits.

Thanks!

Technology

I am real excited after read after reading the pdf. I believe that the use of technology in the classroom engages the students better than anything else. They have grown up in the generation of texting, video games, and internet. They are more in tune when I use technolgy in my math class than just "old-fashion" teaching. Can't wait to use the new ideas
