National Advisory Council member Ted Hasselbring is a research professor in special education at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. Over the past 25 years, Hasselbring has conducted research on the use of technology for enhancing learning in students with mild disabilities and those who are at risk for school failure. He began his career as a special education teacher in New York.

In 1982, Hasselbring joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University, where, for 18 years, he served as the codirector of the Learning Technology Center and conducted research on using technology in reading and mathematics instruction. This research resulted in several widely used computer-intervention programs, including READ 180, System 44, FASTT Math, and Simon SIO. He has also served as executive director of the National Assistive Technology Research Institute.
