National Advisory Council member Susan Patrick is president and CEO of the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL), a nonprofit association that publishes quality standards and best practices for virtual education. She is former director of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology, and she published the National Education Technology Plan in 2005.

In 2008, eSchool News named Patrick one of the top ten national education leaders who "have had a profound impact on educational technology" in the past decade. Patrick has also worked in Arizona on government-technology policy and legislation. There, she received the 2001 Governor's Spirit of Excellence award. Patrick holds degrees from the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Colorado College.
