Project based learning is a seems like a creative way to teach. I'm not sure if I understand how it works. How is the American Revolution taught as a project? In relatable ways project based learning does appear to engage students more than textbook learning.

Carolyn, please check out our short overview video for the basics on how project learning works. Virtually any subject can be addressed with a project, and projects are often inter-disciplinary, as they are at King Middle School in Maine, profiled above.

I'm guessing you could find some great ideas for teaching the American Revolution in a project-based manner by posting an inquiry in our Project Learning group!

I think this is cool that they don't have many lectures. and their way of doing projects to keep the kids attention really works it looks like. I wish we had more of that at my school. Lectures get really boring especially when it is on a topic that i don't find interesting. If teachers pulled there students into the lesson more and got them more involved I think they would see a lot of improvement in the productivity and quality of work by the students.

Wow this school looks awesome!!
I'm surprised that our school district does not offer 1 to 1 computers. I think that it would provide an unmatched opportunity for students. With our student email, teacher webpages, and online classrooms maybe 1 to 1 computers is the next step.

I found this video very interesting because I have never seen a school that teaches this way. All the creativity involved encourages the kids to think outside the box. I can tell that the kids who attend this school really enjoy learning. Instead of dreading going to school every day, the students seem to have fun and look forward to school. I wish that my middle school could have involved expeditionary learning or project learning because I think I learn more when creating and doing hands-on activities. I know from experience that I get better grades on projects than on tests and I obtain more knowledge. The only issue I could see coming from this great idea is with all the apple computers and art supplies each student uses, I am not sure how every school district could afford this program.
