throughout my experience in highschool, i didnt really have any issues with the uniform in general, i could live with it. that isnt to say i am 'for uniforms', im agianst them in almost every way. looking through various arguments my opinon has changed and now i recognise the pointlesssness of uniforms (ESPECIALLY school uniforms) im currently studying at university and i was quick to jump on this topic. i found an ecelent web site going through many of the 'myths' associated with the idea that 'uniforms are a posisitve option' the site is http://www.aprod.org/myths.htm thought im sure it has been entered a few times on this site. i encourage all of you to check it out, it was extremely helpful with my assignment (high distinction!!!)

I'm a student, and personally I think that although students seem more "polite" in every day activities when wearing a uniform, they are unhappy. I've been in uniform and street clothes in school, and when wearing street clothes i feel much more comfortable and relaxed. It makes me feel much better wearing street clothes. Kids also lose their sense of identity with a code that tells you what you should and shouldnt wear, of course an obscene shirt featuring the word "fuck" on the front of it is unacceptable, But a t-shirt that says "Queen" "kiss" "senses fail" "drama queen" shouldn't be considered taboo. When I was wearing a uniform i felt a stronger urge to strike out, and to do something irrational. So in my opinion uniforms will cause different problems, yes the get rid of "what to wear" "gang wear" but they bring up monatary issues, Rebellion, Sense of identity dissapating as if evaporation of personality took place, and kids fighting that the other persons clothes are "exactly like theirs". So, while getting rid of the problems in school now regarding apparel in schools, you bring up other problems. In conclusion, uniforms cause just as much problems as street clothes.

school uniforms suck because if people can't wear them because of their religion they get to wear their own clothes while the other kids have to wear the uniforms which isn't right

Though i am only a fifth grader I have to wear uniforms. Our whole school hates them and we have had protests and petitions but the teachers and principals dont listen to us. My opinion on dresscode and/or uniforms is that they are uncomfortable, most of the time expensive, and take away a child's creativity and uniqueness. I (and others) truely think uniforms are uncomfortable. You may have to tuck in your shirt and it gets annoying because it goes too far down or keeps coming undone. Then the teachers have to yell at you for either digging down your pants or having your shirt untucked. And also children may have a growth spirt in the middle of the school year and usually at that time all uniforms are put away, thrown out, or sold out. And then you have to go searching for clothes. Its just so aggrivating.(excuse all of my spelling.)This year we ordered clothes from a really good brand of uniform clothes (the same brand i had used before) andthis time the pants were way to small. So that was about $50-$80 dollars down the drain. Another thing is that they are very or a little expensive. My mother and i usually have to go to about 5-6 different stores to find enough clothes for the first month of school. I was tired by the end of that shopping day.But then you have to think of more of the parents who dont make as much money as some other parents. Those parents cant afford to buy or spend money on new clothes every year. When the kids already have fitting comfortable non-uniform or non-dresscode clothes that they like to wear. It is just a waste of money and time. The last reason is that not many children can be unique by wearing dresscode. You can tell a lot about a child's personality by the way they dress.Like if you see a kid with baggy pants, boxers showing, and a long baggy shirt you can usually tell they do not care for their education. But if you see a person who looks a lot like Steevie Urcle (again mind my spelling) then you can tell their favorite hangout is probably the library. You can tell a lot by looks but judging looks doesnt help. No matter what you wear, you will always be judged. You and your schoolmates may be wearing the same thing but they still judge your hair your shoes anything. So they dont care about what you are wearing and dresscode/uniform doesnt help.Though you are still being judged without dresscode you still know it is comfortable and you can tell yourself,"So what! This is comfortable and i like it. No one can stop me from wearing it, but me!" That is my opinion on dresscode/uniform. Thank you for your time and have a good day, afternoon or evening.

What is the point of wearing uniforms if you also have to buy play clothes? Yea i know that the rich kids like showing off what their money can get them.. Their parents worked too hard to make their money so wy cant they have their kids dressing nice? I dont think any schools should have uniforms..

A kid should have her/his own choice of clothing. It is a way of communication. Anyway, buying uniforms is a way to waste money. When you buy one, you have to get another when you outgrow it. It's like throwing money on the street. It makes to difference.
