I totally agree! school uniforms wont make you a different person. if anything it will actually help you learn to express yourself in other creative ways.

I am in my second year of highschool & honestly i think uniforms would be a good idea.
I use to say "no, uniforms would be so stupid, you cant express who you are with them" but thats deffinatly NOT the case, you can wear make-up the way you want to, you can wear your hair the way you want to, you CAN express yourself in other wasy then the way you dress! You are still You, thats NOT going to change, not all people judge by the cover. I think it would help a lot of prblems if they required us to wear uniforms. I would have to worry each night about what im going to wear in the morninig.
I know it would save a lot of my time.

i am 14 and in my last year of middle school , my oppinon is that we should have uniforms in all are public schools. why you ask? well it sets us all at an equal no "o my gog she is wereing the most awsome and expensive shirt" i would say that the thing that worries me the most about a new school year is what am i going to wear all year i have to have a wide seletion and stuff so it usually costs me about 200 + every year and i dont like to get up in the morning and be like i have nothing to wear!!!! people that dont agree with me and say o my kids should express themselves well my anser to that is they still have their personalities and can were their hair in certan way also they can wear nail polish and exeseries like purses and head band neckleses and stuff like that. also think about this parents and kids would u like to be judged by your clothing ? like if u dont get hollister areopostal and amarican outfitters stuff like that its cute dont get me wrong but its very expensive and most of it isint the best quality. i would LOVE to not have the exiety about what im going to wear and if its hot or not then i would be able to work on school and my life would be much better. also uniforms give a formal look and if u go on a feld trip it will be easy to see which kids belong to who. and when the uniforms are nice anuff to please both parents teachers and kids i gaurenty u that school would be a better place for every one . my email is littledevil23@comcast.net if u want to ask me anything thank u for reading !

I moved from up North and have three children that have never worn Uniforms they are between the ages of 11 and 16 I have chosen to home school my girls as I do not beleive in the Uniformed schools it is very wrong to make a choice for our children like the way they dress I had my daughter in the school system in Altamonte Springs Florida in Kindergarten and they had no uniforms and it was a very good school children were behaved and walked a yellow line to and from classes they had good structure in the school there if schools would look into the way it is run there they would see other ways, I understand some of the views on uniforms but making children do this is very wrong you give them no choices and they have choices and they have voices to be heard.
it is not anyones wright to make them what they want them to be we are all different and we are all here to do something good all of us .
taking the choice from them will one day lead to more issues maybe not now but they will rebel we cannot turn back the clock to times gone by it is the year 2007 and you cannot go back to the 1800s and expect it to work society has moved forward to fast and will continue let them all have the choice do not make it for them .

Interesting viewpoints are being expressed on both sides of this issue. I personally prefer uniforms & would support our public schools requiring them. I would also support a program through which those who can easily afford them could contribute so that the uniforms don't create a financial burden for others.

The purpose of school is academic, and the need is to focus on learning. One doesn't have to look far to find opportunities for self-expression & it seems less likely that pop culture is helpful to the academic process. The social scene in a school doesn't change because of uniforms, but the competitive dressing for status can be curtailed. The obvious differences between socio-economic groups is less apparent...and as someone who grew up 'poor' this seems far preferable. As a parent & a taxpayer, I'd prefer schools where the focus is on learning not on who's wearing what.

Those with the means to send their kids to private schools know that the end result matters most & want to know their kid is academically prepared for college. Private schools focus on learning, despite the unimaginative clothing choices. If you make that the priority, you can afford the REALLY nice clothes/cars/houses you want once you've made your way in your career.

second thoughts on school uniforms

I think that there shouldn't be any uniforms in school. In my opinion school uniforms are not always a good idea. I know that there are some people that might say that by having school uniforms that will prevent bullying, gang violence, cliques, and that some kids may not get along with certain kids just because of the clothes they wear but I don't think it's true. I now some parents think it's best to have school uniforms but some of the reasons they talk about are just negative reason. I think that there are also many positive reasons to not have school uniforms. I do think that some of the reasons the parents listed are true but, if there are school uniforms that doesn't mean that some kids still won't get bullied. While some of the students might have nicer clothes than others that doesn't mean that some of those students won't pick on them for other reasons. Some of the positive things of not having school uniforms is that many parents will spend less money buying new school clothes each year for their children,if there wasn't any school uniforms the students might feel a bit more comfortable in their jeans and T-shirts,without school uniforms the student might feel that their important because they're being heard and that might cause them to do better in school, and lastly without those uniforms the students might also feel respected for doing what they think is better for their school and you know the old saying you have to give respect to earn respect.

Young children’s attending school, in the early stage are generally dressed by there parents, becoming more and more independent and creative dressers as they grow however, when entering middle school, there should be a change and uniforms dress code is one of them. Academically at middle school, new disciplines are introduce to the students which are geared to better prepare the students to deal with the real world. Uniforms helps the student academic and social progress, and reduce the social stresses, which are inherited by a school yard environment, in which children’s are not wearing uniforms. Some may think that the creative nature may be taken or that they will be teased, in my opinion it’s not true.
Teenagers naturally are going through a biological hormonal changes which are very challenging, many social mistakes are mad at this age, teasing, humiliating, are just a sample of what kid’s will inflict on each other and themselves. Writ your self a lists of the pro’s & con’s, you will see the results.

I believe that when children were uniforms to school they will be more inclined to learn. There are far to many instances where (especially among girls) clothing style can result in being outcast and bullied. As for the people who cry about individualism, what about art classes, music classes joining teams/clubs.

With dress codes kids are always being sent home for pushing the limit. Now that child has lost time in the class room. Parents don't have to worry about spending as much on clothing. There is a stronger sense of school pride.

The main thing though is helping the students pay more attention to the teachers and gaining a better education. Parents should be alarmed at the rate the US student is falling behind other countries. Obviously the dress code is failing. Time to go back to what works.
