I think the students should NOT be separated at school! I think this because most classes now are doing fine with mixed boy and girl classes. it wouldnt even make a point if the school only had certain classes separated because what do you think they would do after that class? Maybe hang out with their friends of different gender... :]

One goal of education today

One goal of education today is to help our young people go out into the world with understanding, and peacefulness to all peoples. I feel though, that if our schools were separated by gender we would be building the walls between students that we have worked for so long to tear down. Gender is becoming a less and less important thing nowadays as gay, lesbian, and bisexual people are feeling more comfortable in our society. The Kinsey Report found that only 10% of our population is strictly heterosexual, whereas 80% is somewhat bisexual and 10% is homosexual. To separate students at an age where they may not know or feel comfortable stating their sexuality would place them in an uncomfortable situation. Imagine if you were a male that felt like a female, and although you looked like a guy, you thought, felt and learned like a female. In a male learning environment you would stick out like a sore thumb, and you would be at a phenomenal disadvantage. Plus, there is always that girl whose friends are all guys, because that is just where she fits in, or vice versa, not necessarily because s/he is gay or lesbian. Think of how lonely that individual would be if s/he were put in a classroom of people that they felt they did not fit in with. Also, I feel that oftentimes students can learn from the other sexes' opinions. If you do not have diversity in a classroom and school then students grow up thinking that all people act as they do. What a shocker that would be when they enter a co-ed working environment! Males and females need to learn how to accept each other at an early age so that later in life no parts of either gender come as a surprise. For parents that realize their child is struggling due to the opposite gender in their classroom, they can always send their students to a single-gender private school. I feel that as long as teachers are well taught about gender differences, and learning style differences then they should be able to cope with any student. As for separating core classes, I think that students should have the option to take more challenging core courses. For example, instead of implementing sex-separation – what about grade level separation? That way all the students in a classroom are at an equal level. I feel that as long as teachers, and parents are well educated about learning differences everyone should be able to learn together in an equal environment. Quinn Grade 10 Student BC, Canada

I am a 15 yr. old HS student and i think it is wrong to seperate students by gender. Like someone else on here said, what will come next? Seperating students because of race? When kids work together they have the oppurtunity to grow and learn more. In the real world no one is seperated, co-ed schools get us kids ready for the real world. If we are seperated than we will not be ready for the real world. What difference will it make if you seperate us? The answer is NONE. I suggest everyone qiuts trying to change everything and just leave it alone think about what the kids are comfortable with! Dont our thoughts and opinions matter anymore?

I think that it is wrong, boys learn better with girls and both genders learn to develope better social skills. When girls and boys work together they are putting both brains together to better understand the topic and to get a different point of view about the assignment. Getting different opinions about something helps you to look at things differently and maybe understand it better.

If a boy doesn't spend enough time with a girl, he will become violent, obscene, and possibly (probably) drop out.

Well, I belive there should not be gender specific classes. Schools weren't created to see how you could suceed academic goals only, it was created to prepare all students for the real world. The 'Real World' is made up of both males and females, not only one gender. If the two genders are seperated, the schools aren't doing their jobs as proper educaters. Instead they are breaking their own honesty in their work. Well, if each gender communicates with their own gender properly only, how will they survive in the real world? They won't be able to lead an excellent life. In my opinion, there should not be be implement classes because it will ruin the chance of living a wonderful life as a human.
