The Mary Scroggs Elementary School Video

What an exciting school to attend and to work in daily! The students produce a daily school-wide television production with all grade levels participating. the use of a live camera, the concept of practicing / rehearsing to achieve a better product, the conveyance of up to date school activities and learning, the use of a live and interactive classroom webpage for every classroom where students, the teacher and the child's family at home may witness and actively participate is incredible. This is the way education should be executed!

Digital Learners

I think that this is a very important and inetresting article. It is crucial that educators understand how students view the world, what is important to them, and even how they learn best. And since they belong to a digital generation, who learn better through discovery than by being told and are experiential learners, we must get to the conclusion that lectures may not be an optimal learning environment.

Therefore, they do not have to adapt to teacher's style, teachers are who need to adapt to their learning style, otherwise we will have disconnected learners.

Weaving computers & multimedia into the curriculum

This really put it all in prospective for me. The idea of more dictation throughout the day that is then transferred to an e-mail that the parents can see and the child that can associate his verbal words with written words is an exciting example of technology!Bringing parents into the classroom without them having to be there is a beautiful idea.Less paperwork, more opportunities for those who do not have access can at least be caught up with technology.I believe that more computors need to be put into every classroom and should be a mandatory part of the curriculum.

Tech at Home

Before viewing this video I had never heard of the government program known as "Tech at Home" that provides hardware and support for lower income students in an attempt to level the technological playing field. I would be keen to find out more about the scope of this program and see if it is possible to introduce this program to families in my area.

Old Footage

If you pay close attention you will see that much of the footage on this video is dated from January, 2002. Is this an indicator of how far behind schools are NOW?!
