The Daring Dozen 2007: Our Heroes

We are thrilled to announce the 2007 Daring Dozen, twelve people who are reshaping the future of education. Every thriving culture has its exceptional citizens, and in the world of education, where it takes exceptional skills simply to survive, these folks stand out.

As we have in the past, we looked for more than a single accomplishment or remarkable stamina. We tried, instead, to identify education activists dedicated to enlightenment and reform, individuals who seek to add distinct brushstrokes to the Big Picture. They seek success and access in equal measure, ensuring that their work will have resonance in every quarter of the education community.

This year's trove includes a Hollywood heavyweight [1], a made-for-movies soccer coach [2], an eighteen-year-old [3] headed for the White House, and the proprietor of pirate and superhero stores [4], among others. We've even added remarkable folks from around the globe, caught up with past designees, and saluted paragons of education history.
