Angus King: Putting Technology on Every Desk

When former Maine governor Angus King started his state's one-to-one laptop initiative in 2002, he believed it was an important idea. But, he says, "As it was being implemented, I realized that it was a radical idea." This unexpected radicalism continues to gain momentum as King spearheads several exciting educational-technology projects, including Schools Without Limits, an open source software company designing tools that allow educators to create free, peer-reviewed educational content for the Web.

Another initiative on his plate is the International Center for Digital Education, a research hub and clearinghouse for successful digital pedagogy to be located at the University of Southern Maine. Though King also teaches at Maine's Bowdoin College, travels the country speaking about education issues and leadership, and serves on several corporate and organizational boards, he still makes time for one of the most radical projects of all: parenting two teenagers.
