Yes. I see many students struggling with the amount of homework assigned. With fewer and shorter assignments, students would learn more and become more engaged in their work both at school and at home.

No. Substantial homework is crucial to student achievement. Students build essential skills, both in academic subjects and in work ethic, when they are required to complete take-home assignments.

It depends. More important than the amount of homework is the quality of assignments. If students are required to complete excessive busywork, then yes; if the assignment is thought provoking and skill building, then no.

I completely agree with you!
I completely agree with you! The reason kids do not like school is that they have too much homework. Right now I am in the middle of a project on too much homework, and for the project we get hours of homework each night!! If we are persuading our teachers not to give us homework , why do we have hours of it per night? I really dont understand. Also, homework is good, if it is in small quantities. Why do you need 6 pages of repitition? Isn't 1 or 2 enough for the teacher to see whether or not the student understands? Anyway, hours of homework is just too much for kids to take. Your stress level shouldn't be this high when you are only 12 years old!
Homework is bad! why do we
Homework is bad! why do we have? stop giving it to us! Im doin homework right now and it SUCKS!
too much homework?
I'm writing a paper for my English class about how the amount of homework teachers should be aloud to assign each night should be limited.
I have included the fact that reseacerchers have found no evidence that homework is benifical to the learning process. I've stated the fact the homework is timeconsuming. I've also included information about how homework is stressful mentally and physically.
is there anything anyone would like to add that i could use in my papaer?
you're thoughts on homework please and thank you.
Homeowrk sucks

Too much homework creates quite a problem....
I know most of these comments must be from middle school student and teachers from all levels of education, but what I haven't seen is a lot of posts from AP or college students. Here is my schedule to give you a primary clue to how my day goes.
1. AP United States History*
2. SAT/ACT Prep.
3. Spanish 3*
4. Pre-Calculus*
5. AP English Literature and Compostition*
6. Chemistry 1* (Should have taken it last year...)
7. Library T.A. (Need it for NHS)
*= classes that are weighed (B=A)
As you can see my schedule is quite full. Well, let me tell you something; I get homework in the first 6 of these classes everyday! Not to mention the reports and studying I have to do in between them. People say to have better management skills and the load will not seem as bad, but I beg to differ. I manage my schedule quite well, in fact; all I do is homework! Monday-Friday I have NO free time. I come home at 4:00 PM and do homework until 12:00 AM or later. I take a break only to eat and take a shower. This is insane! All the kids taking regular level classes never have any homework what-so-ever! I understand that I was taking a big responsibility for taking college level classes, but I never imagined that it would be this horrible.
People with sports agree with this. I truely have no idea how they do it. I don't have enough time to do all the homework as it is now. It wouldn't be so bad if the assignments had a clear due date and I could manage my time to my assignments equally, but they don't. It seems my teachers don't take responsibility at all. What do they do when they arrive home? Play with their dogs? We (the T.A.'s) do all the grading and prosecution of discipline. So what is left for them? I suppose I am done rambling on now. Sorry for any grammar or other small errors, but I felt I must vent. You middle school children take my warning. If you value your sanity (literally, I believe I will check myself into a stress center this weekend...) then do not take AP classes on top of other semi-difficult classes. Just to end this on a sour note, here's all the current things I have to worry about on a weekly basis.
1. Read a novel of classic literature
2. Write a report due on Finals week over said literature
3. Read "Sorrows of Young Worther" parts 2,3, and 4 (about 80 or so small print pages)
4. Read the rest of Gulliver's Travels
5. Read current chapter in History
6. Complete (a very long) study guide for History
7. Study for history test
8. Keep up in Spanish
9. Make sure all translations are complete (Spanish)
10. Get caught up in Pre-Cal. (I tend to neglect this homework because it is not for a grade, but I need to do it for practice)
11. Study for weekly Vocab tests (Some of which include up to 120 words)
12. Make root cards for SAT prep
13. Study roots for SAT prep.
14. Teach myself what is currently going on in Chemistry (The teacher just gives us notes, but no lectures...)
15. Other outstanding assignments that have accumulated.
Plus all the other homework that is assigned daily.
Well, I hope you enjoyed your small voyage into the underworld, as quoted from Dante's Inferno, "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here".
Homework Stresses
As a teacher, parent and college student I also agree that students are given too much homework. I teach kindergarten so I do not give homework however, I know teachers that do. My daughter spends on average 4-5 hours a night on homework sometimes 6-7 hours. She is in fourth grade! College you expect it but elementary school is not college!
Hey i don't like homework
Hey i don't like homework either but get over it.. i do just as much as you do!!!
When you're a kid then you
When you're a kid then you do want to go outside and play but then you think about your responsibilities and you do your homework no matter how much homework you have.
HOMEWORK is irrelevant to profitable careers
Homework today is so long and vigorus that most students build up enough stress to sometimes do harm to themselves and others. i was reading a news article about a school shooting and the report said that the day beforehand he had on average 6 hours homework. one thing leads to another. he lost his mind, shot teachers ans students and committed suicide. plus a good career is usually through specialized colleges now. school only covers a general sense of knowledge. it really doesnt take "General Knowledge" to get ahead in life anymore. Even half-way illiterate rappers make good money.
