Well maybe if children actually knew how to use a computer properly these problems wouldnt occur. Working a computer is becoming more and more of a prerequisite in our digital age. I think it should be a required that children should be taught about the inner workings of a computer along with the GUI. The people who are always complaining about viruses are the ones who dont know how to use a computer properly. I also believe that if laptops are to be used in K-12 that family should be the ones who buy them, simply because people treasure items owned more than items they borrow.
Yes:Because the internet is constantly updated with real time information on politics, sports, and other facts. Like Textbooks now don't have Barack Obama in them but the tell you over a billion results in the search engine.
No: Because MOST Schools cannot afford this. Because of number of students or they just don't have enough money to spend
I would not advocate replacing one process or method with another, I would only address the issue of how the material is carted around. Why carry dead trees around in backpacks when exactly the same material can be digitized into an eBook reader of some sort?
Starting from there, one can add a netbook or laptop if desired. I freely admit that a laptop would add features such as easy writing and Internet access, but let's not stray from the essential advantage of digitizing all those words and pictures instead of carrying all that paper around just because, for one reason or another, we don't want to issue laptops (or require--horrors) laptops.
I think down the road a piece we will find that "netbooks" will be cheap and available, and will do everything a notebook and a stack of large, heavy books will do.
hello ummm I'm doing a persuasive text. My teacher gave us a lot of topics we can argue about. and one of the topics he's given is "Should schools do away with books and replace them with laptops for each student? and why?" I've chosen this topic and my teacher told me to do it as my assignment and he said that I could research some ideas in the net. I found this website and it really helped me a lot. Thanks to all your ideas!!!!!! And I've chosen the "YES" side of course coz my dad also said that books should be replaced by laptops. He asked me one time if I'm allowed to bring laptops at school but I'm not. maybe in highschool....
I agree that books should be replaced by laptops. My dad also think that too. Some books sometimes have errors. Laptops can do stuff automatically and we can save some time too.
at my school i am tring to get laptops but i sent a message to my head, and he said no because you can bring your own laptops in. but my parents wont let me!!!!!!! i even have an email to prove that i am allowed to take it to school. but my parents still say no. i so annoying

ur right staci. my dad also said that. some trees will be chopped down for papers and it's really bad for our planet. ;)
I Agree

Laptops
I think they should because laptops can be very easy to get information and store things like homework, notes, etc, etc.
If you're a language arts teacher, I'm mickey mouse.
You missed several typos (believe, therefore) and made typos yourself (lately etc.) Finally, no language arts teacher would *ever* use a smiley :)
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
