Yes. The four-day week is a workable solution to the budget crunch that schools face.

Maybe. Schools should look at other ways to cut the budget before resorting to a four-day week.

No. The ramifications of a four-day week, such as the need for parents to find child care and problems with extracurricular activities, outweigh the benefits.

Nothing is for free
IN our district schools have attempted for 6 years to get a levy passed and the voters voted it down each time. IN minesota we have prided ourselves in putting education first however we are slipping drastically because nobody wants to pay for it. OUr culture continues to slip into moral decline when it comes to supporting programs designed to create better education and better lives. My opinion.... Nothing is for free you gotta pay somehow and in North Branch, suck it up and quit complaining!
Our school district is facing a 2.9 million dollar cut. I have proposed the 4 day school week as a way to save that money. Being a teacher I definately see the benefits in many ways to making this change. Our school districts concern is what how this will affect the elementary school children because their day starts later than the middle and high school. They understandably don't want to bus the younger children with the teenagers. If you have gone to the 4 day week, how did your district solve these problems?
A 4 day school week is for little girls just like Jordan Lewis because he obsesses over scrubs and k.o. and neither are even that good. OMG Exactly
I totally agree with all that you have stated in your response. As a parent and educator, a longer day would give us more time. We could fit things into the school day that often get cut short because there is never enough time to teach, complete activities, and complete classwork.
Chances are there would be less school work done at home. Evenings could be spent as families without the stress of finishing homework.
4 day week possible
The for day week will become possible if financial pressure continues to build. It will go from a protested liberal idea to a conservative promoted plan. Most schools are already out 26 or so Mondays. Students will miss 4 to 10 days for appointments and parents off days also. These could be reduced with all Mondays available. Tax increases to sustain (let alone improve) present school conditions are being fought. Why not go with a plan that would save between 8 to 20% on transportation, utilities, and support? An extra hour a day for remediation or enhancement depending on a students needs would be an excellent use of an extra school hour. Mondays for homework, field trips independent study and even rest does not seem like a bad idea.
Hours
It seems like if they do have a four day school week, they would be cramming a five day school week into four. Students may get overly stressed, and many need time for extra activities.
Utility
Yes, I agree. Wouldn't it be much cheaper to provide a classroom full of people with utility, rather than having everyone go home to their own household on a Friday to provide themselves? Besides, they probaly keep the utility on when they leave, so really, it would cost MORE.
Utility
What do you think?? Isn't it much cheaper to provide a classroom full of people with utility than having every student go home to their own household to provide for themselves??
